Telco Industry Raises $30,000 for Salvo's

8 October 2007: The telecommunications industry has raised over $30,000 for Salvation' Army's OASIS Youth Support Network though its annual sailing event, the Telco Regatta featuring the Nokia Cup.

A fleet of 20 yachts took part in the Regatta on Thursday 4th October including crews from Nokia, All Phones, Crazy Johns, Force, Nokia Siemens Networks, Yes Optus, Vodafone, Brightpoint, Cellnet, Nokia Care, Creative FM, Hausnann Communications, One Partners, RLI, EDF, APN Outdoor, MCM Entertainnment, Telarus, Mobile Active and, JC Decaux.

"It was another successful day of sailing for the Salvo's," said Shaun Colligan, General Manager, Nokia Australia & New Zealand.

"Last year we raised over $22,000 for the Salvo's, this year we were pleased to do even better and raise over $30,000 to help support disadvantaged youth in some small way."

Chris Althaus, CEO of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association said, "It's a fun day for the industry, but more importantly allows us all to get together and give something back to the community,"

Captain Paul Moulds from Oasis said, "On any given night, Oasis, accommodates, feeds and supports more than 100 homeless young people, many facing mental health issues and other multiple, complex barriers.

"The money raised by the Telco Regatta this year will go to our StreetConnect Bus which is on the road six nights a week in Sydney and Central Coast hotspots, helping disadvantaged people.

"The StreetConnect bus features laptops and wireless technology allowing disconnected youth to access the internet for support services, information, and to send/receive emails and thus helps in a small way to cross the digital divide."

The Telco Regatta concept was created by event manager, EME Events which also donated a significant portion of all corporate entry fees to Oasis.
