Oasis, Nokia StreetConnect Technology Bus and Myer Melbourne help the Victorian bushfire recovery efforts

The devastating Victorian bushfires have shattered the lives of thousands of residents, leaving many homeless and unsure of the future.

The Oasis Youth Support Network along with Myer Melbourne and Nokia Australia decided to help the bushfire recovery by sending the Nokia StreetConnect Technology Bus to offer wireless internet to residents, allowing them to contact family and friends, access internet banking and find information about support services and accommodation.

Flowerdale, is located north-east of Melbourne, and had been isolated for a week with no electricity, no water and no telephones. The ‘Black Saturday’ firestorm left only 10 per cent of the buildings in Flowerdale standing and hundreds without homes.

The Nokia StreetConnect Bus remained in Flowerdale for one week, from Wednesday, 18 February until Sunday, 22 February 2009 and assisted 180 residents.

Please see a couple of images and all the statistics from this project below.
