Sydney, Australia - Nokia Australia today announced that its much-anticipated Nokia Music Store, music.nokia.com.au will open its virtual doors on April 22nd 2008.

Millions of tracks from major global artists, local independent artists, and up-and-coming Aussie acts will be available giving consumers the real freedom to enjoy music at their fingertips, 24/7.

“As the world’s largest manufacturer of digital music players we are ideally placed to further enhance our devices repertoire with our internet-based music store experience.

“Australia will be one of the first 10 countries in the world to get their own localised Nokia Music Store,” said Shaun Colligan, General Manager, Nokia Australia.

“Australian consumers can be confident that the Nokia Music Store will have a broad range of genres including popular and non-mainstream genres and independent artists as we aim to make our store more locally relevant than any other digital music store in Australia,” he said.

With a single account, Australian music lovers can access the Nokia Music Store via their personal computer or directly from their optimised Nokia devices including the Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N81 8GB and the N82. In addition, the ability to sync from a PC is available on a wider range of Nokia models including the latest Xpress Music handets, Nokia 5610 and Nokia 5310.

The PC store’s intuitive user-interface makes streaming full-length tracks easy, and offers options to create customised playlists and to add tracks on a wishlist that you can decide to buy later. Tracks purchased can also be transferred via your PC to compatible Nokia devices. The music collection can then simply be synchronised between the PC and a mobile using Windows Media Player 11.

Individual tracks will cost A$1.70 per track and albums from A$17.00. The Nokia Music Store will also offer a monthly subscription for PC users to stream an unlimited number of full length tracks for A$10.00 per month.

The Nokia Music Store's label line-up includes Alberts, AmpHead, Blue Pie Productions, Creative Vibes, Dew Process, Eleven, EMI Music, Future Classic, Hillsong, Illusive, Inertia, Invada Records, IODA (Independent Online Distribution Alliance), Ivy League, Liberation, Liberator, MGM Distribution, Modular, Obese Records, Odessa Mama, Red Label, Roadshow Entertainment, Shock Entertainment, SONY BMG, The Orchard, Universal Music, Xelon Entertainment, and more.

All music on the Nokia Music Store will be able to be purchased through a variety of payment options, including credit cards and pre-paid retail vouchers.

Tracks are typically delivered in high quality 192Kbps audio in Windows Media Audio (WMA) format. You can easily transfer your purchased songs to your Nokia device using Windows Media Player 11 (or with the Nokia Music PC Client which will be available later in the year. The Nokia Music PC client enables reverse synchronization of playlists, ripping from a CD to your device and PC simultaneously, as well as auto-synchronization of your purchased music and direct access to the Nokia Music Store.
